Bonjour!
Le Vrai Nous translates to The Real Us. A few years ago, my life began in a sense when I met my twin flame, my husband, Jordan. Since the night we met, we have lived life like two kids in a candy store. It’s been a whirlwind of making the most of life together since being short changed, meeting at our age, instead of 25 years ago. We each have an adult child, mine a very new adult. I was a full time single, working mom for 16 years until I met Jordan. I’m so appreciative of his commitment and dedication to my daughter and me. With support, love and inspiration for each other through good, bad and crazy times, and of course, glasses of wine, this blog was born.
Always interested in people, places and interactions, my major in college was Sociology. My original major was journalism which I wish I would have pursued back then. Instead, I entered into the field of correctional social services. A combination of facilitating cognitive restructuring, substance abuse treatment, and life skills programming with individuals in the criminal justice system, kept my days busy for a couple decades. My role was just a stop on people’s journeys of struggle. Providing resources and guiding new ways of thinking, and listening is really all I did. At times I’ve asked myself “what have I really done in my life?” When I was young, I thought for sure I would be a mover and shaker in this world, lol. I’ve come to terms that I have, and am, doing what I was probably put on this Earth to do. And luckily, I’ve enjoyed most of it, and my journey is still going!
We’re in the middle of life, a time of transitions that can be surprising and sometimes disheartening. But, midlife can be completely fabulous too! It’s a time to do what we love, live with confidence and and have fun while being the real us! I decided to scrap the defining term ‘middle age’ as it’s been a year or so since I started this. Yes, being around 50 is technically middle age/mid life, if all goes as planned. Our ages of 45 to 60 is Generation X, the most fabulous, and kind of ignored, generation. There are so many positives of us Gen Xers! This is probably why I feel like I’m 30 years old! Anyway, our love of style, travel, reading, learning, cooking, psychology and emotional well being, will be highlighted here. I am excited to share ideas and places with you in the real! And, I mean real. No ridiculous photo editing or trendy stuff. I like real. I hope when you visit here you feel a sense of connection, inspiration and happiness, no matter what your age!
Joie!
